Denver (City and County)

Baker

Baker is an official Denver neighborhood south of downtown, running from Broadway west to the South Platte River. Homes range from 19th-century brick houses, many of them Queen Anne, to townhomes, new builds and apartment buildings near the rail station. The Baker Historic District and the South Side-Baker National Register listing cover only its northeast corner. RTD light rail serves it at Alameda Station and I-25 & Broadway Station, and I-25 and Sixth Avenue connect it to the rest of the metro.

Capitol Hill and Uptown

Capitol Hill and Uptown are the blocks just east of downtown Denver, on either side of Colfax Avenue. Capitol Hill is an official Denver neighborhood. Uptown isn't: it's the everyday name for the official North Capitol Hill neighborhood, and it sometimes reaches into City Park West. Housing is mostly multi-unit, from old mansions cut into apartments and condos to walk-ups and taller newer buildings. You can walk into downtown from here, RTD buses run on Colfax, and downtown's rail and bus connections reach the rest of the metro.

Central Park

Central Park is a Denver neighborhood east of downtown, built on the site of the former Stapleton International Airport, with I-70 running through it. Homes are mostly new construction from the early 2000s on, including single-family houses, row homes, duplexes, condos and apartments. Central Park Station puts it on RTD's commuter rail line between Union Station and Denver International Airport, and I-70 connects it to the rest of the metro. It's separate from New York's Central Park, and from the city park of the same name inside the neighborhood.

Cherry Creek

Cherry Creek is a Denver neighborhood southeast of downtown, running from the creek north to East Sixth Avenue between University and Colorado boulevards. It holds the Cherry Creek Shopping Center and the 16 blocks of Cherry Creek North, with condos, townhomes and single-family homes around them. East First Avenue connects it to downtown as the continuation of Speer Boulevard, the Cherry Creek Trail runs there too, and RTD serves the area by bus rather than rail. It's in Denver Public Schools, not the Cherry Creek School District.

City Park

City Park is a 330-acre park east of downtown Denver, and the name also covers two official neighborhoods. The City Park neighborhood is mostly the park, Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance and Denver Museum of Nature & Science. City Park West has the housing west of the park. Homes include older brick houses, Denver squares, Victorians, bungalows and small apartment buildings. Neither neighborhood has an RTD rail station, so the connections to the rest of the metro are Colfax, 17th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard, which reaches I-25 and I-70.

LoDo

LoDo, short for Lower Downtown, is the original settlement of Denver, at the northwest end of downtown near the confluence of Cherry Creek and the South Platte River. It isn't an official neighborhood: the city's statistical neighborhood here is Union Station, and the Lower Downtown Historic District is a separate, smaller city designation. Homes are condos, lofts and apartments, many in converted warehouses. Denver Union Station connects RTD light rail, commuter rail to the airport, Amtrak and regional buses, and I-25 is just across the river.

Homes are mostly older, including Tudors, Denver squares, brick bungalows and larger estates, with mid-century houses too. I-70 connects the area to the airport and the mountains, and the closest stations on RTD's airport rail line are outside it, at 40th & Colorado and Central Park.

RiNo, the River North Art District, is a district inside it that also reaches into parts of neighboring Globeville and Elyria-Swansea. Homes run from 1880s rowhouses and cottages in Curtis Park to industrial buildings turned into lofts and apartments, plus a lot of new construction. RTD's airport rail line stops at 38th & Blake Station, and I-25 and I-70 connect the area to the rest of the metro.
